HOW CALIFORNIA AVOIDED ROLLING BLACKOUTS WITH OUTAGE COMMS

In the summer of 2022, extreme heat strained California’s energy grid, prompting the California Independent System Operator (ISO) to declare its highest-level energy emergency Flex Alert before rolling blackouts ensued.

The company achieved a delivery rate exceeding 1.5 million communications per hour, providing real-time reporting and carrier-certified delivery receipts.

 

Narrowly avoiding rolling blackouts, customer power demand plunged by 1.2 gigawatts between 5:50 and 5:55 pm on September 7th, 2022, because of energy conservation efforts, according to the California Independent System Operator.

Proactive communication played a pivotal role in updating utility customers and offering energy conservation instructions, averting the need for rolling blackouts. This success was attributed to Message Broadcast’s efficient SLA message delivery workflows, closely coordinated efforts with clients, and collaboration with the California ISO.
